USGenWeb Free Census Project Help, About the header on each page

Nearly every page will give information listing the state, territory, or possession enumerated; the county or other major division; sometimes one or more minor civil divisions, the enumerator's name (yes, this can change from page to page), the date of enumeration; and after 1880 the SD or Supervisor's District and ED or Enumeration District.

We list all these things above each transcribed page also. We also list the film number (which often will not fit in CART, so the initial letter is omitted). A line number is required on every line. We also require dwelling and family numbers to be given on each line, except in very rare occasions.

When transcribing the census, MAKE A BACKUP COPY!

Census Project since 1997

A Gift of the Past for the Future! Started in February, 1997, The USGenWeb Free Census Project is an all-volunteer project to transcribe census records in a standard format in order to make them available to genealogical researchers on the Internet.
