In 1880 the state of Tennessee was divided for enumeration purposes by the Census Bureau into five Supervisory Districts. SD 1 consisted of counties in eastern Tennessee, SD 2 of counties in east central Tennessee, SD 3 of central counties, SD 4 of west central counties, and SD 5 of western Tennessee.
