I have lived in Panola County and have done research in Panola and Rusk Counties for 25 years. My family came to Texas in 1830. My gggrandparents were the second couple married in the Republic of Texas. Out of the Original 300 (Note: Stephen F. Austin's settlers were called the '300'), at least 20 were multi-great-grands of mine. Some entries in the Remarks: field are from my family research. Maiden names, known names, corrected names, and information that I thought might be of help to researchers were noted. If anyone has any additions or corrections, please contact me so they can be made. Gloria Briley Mayfield, Rusk Co. Coordinator.
