Newton Township Transcribers Remarks:
==========================================
The 1803 Ohio State census for Newton Township, Washington County, was conducted 
by Thomas Dowden. Mr. Dowden apparently used a small notebook to record the 
names.  The first page contains the following statement, "Numeration of the 
White Male Inhabetance in the Township of Newto[n] State of Ohio Washington 
County of the age of 21 years & upwards Taken in year 1803 by Thos. Dowden 
Lister." The second image on the microfilm (which is probably out of order) 
contains the following statement "List Book for the Township of Newton 1803 
Thos. Dowden." The remaining 13 images contain 13 pages of first and last names 
totalling 159. However, for some reason Mr. Dowden placed the number 2 after the 
name of John Beatty on the 8th page of names, as well as after the name of 
George Beymer on the 9th page of names. He also counted them twice, resulting in 
a total of 161 names.

The quality of the images is not very good. In addition, Mr. Dowden used a fine 
tipped writing instrument which did not deposit much ink on the vertical 
strokes, thereby making some of the letters like "f," "y," "t," and "d" 
difficult to read. However, by zooming in on the names, I had little trouble 
reading all of them.
