He placed the date, "August the 1, 1803" at the top of the first page of names. Next he wrote a heading, "List of the free male inhabitance of twentyone years and upwards." The 78 names were listed in one column of first and last names covering 2 1/2 pages. On the last page, Mr. Oliver wrote the following certification, "Lister in the township of Adams John Oliver." The legibility of the names for Adams Township was relatively good. The handwriting was clear, except for some confusion created by the crossing of the letter T and some flourishes at the end of names. The first page had a piece of the page missing and the writing on the second page was a little faint, but neither caused any major problem with legibility.
