Also, in the Washington Township enumeration, the enumerator always put the person's middle initial first--so if a person's name was Eliza J. Smith, it would be written as "J. Eliza Smith". I would like to thank my proofreader Sally Hibbard for her thorough proofreading as well as for being able to decipher some of the handwriting--we both had problems with a couple of the enumerators' handwriting, especially with numerals (a 1 looking like a 7 and a 3 like a 5, for example).
