DeKalb, IN 1850 Federal Census ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Transcriber's Notes: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Special note on Fairfield Township (File name: pg0229b.txt) On page #233A, microfilm frame #464, the enumerator skipped line #42. Then on page #233B, microfilm frame #465 Dwelling Number #68 was crossed out and changed to #67. The Family Number stayed #68. After this the DNs and FNs are often crossed out and renumbered, trying to the correct the numbering. I don’t believe that the numbering after this point can be counted on to be accurate. Also, the handwriting on the last 2 pages of Fairfield Township, pages #235B, microfilm frame #469 and #236A, microfilm frame #470, changed. Egbert Mott’s name remained listed at the top of the pages as the enumerator, but the handwriting is markedly different from his. It is unknown who actually completed these 2 pages. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The 1850 Federal Census for DeKalb County, Indiana was enumerated by Egbert B. Mott, a prominent attorney who lived in Auburn. For the most part, his handwriting is legible and the information seems to be as accurate as what was given to him. But occasionally information entered was obviously or possibly inaccurate. Where such occurs I have noted in the remarks field. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mr. Mott often used abbreviations for states which may not clearly identify the states intended. The following are the most common one to two letter abbreviations he used throughout all townships in DeKalb County. "Ia" or "I" - Indiana "Ky" - Kentucky "O" - Ohio "Md" - Maryland "NY" - New York "Pa" or "P" - Pennsylvania "Va" - Virginia "Vt" - Vermont ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
